Construction and engineering campus
Location Basildon, Essex
Value £7.7m approx
This project comprised a phased development of a new construction and engineering campus, involving part demolition and part major refurbishment of existing industrial units, to create a state of the art facility for the training of apprentices and young people who have selected a vocational career. The utilisation of existing structures enabled the project to be delivered within tight financial constraints with the cost control skills of HBW being used to demonstrate how an educational project can be completed significantly under national cost indicators for this type of scheme. This need for tight cost control did not deter the architect in any way, indeed, HBW worked closely with the architect and engineers to find value for money solutions for each of the building elements to create a campus that all the students can be justifiably proud.
This project was procured traditionally with HBW not only fulfilling the role of Project Manager, Contract Administrator, Quantity Surveyor and CDM Coordinator but also managing the OJEU procurement process in the selection of the main contractor as well as being heavily involved with the various funding submissions and dealing directly with funding officers.
